Each fall teachers work with students who have fallen ill with the dreaded summer “brain drain.” Symptoms include learning loss, forgetting math formulas, and even a decrease in vocabulary. For some, it may seem as if lessons students learned during the school year have melted away in the summer heat and out with the ocean tides! PA Virtual Grads-Where are They Now?
Annetta Hartman graduated from PA Virtual in 2013. She is a senior at Penn State majoring in Mechanical Engineering and minoring in Business Administration. We recently caught up with Annetta and she provided us with some insight into her college experience and also gave advice to PA Virtual seniors. Annetta will be one of the commencement speakers at Graduation this Friday, June 10.

There is still a week left of Keystone testing. Despite strange myths that exist, cyber school students DO take standardized state assessments just like every other school. Many PA cyber schools use resource centers or rent facilities to administer the tests in the same window as other students in the state. This year, Keystones are administered between May 16 – 27. Did you know about 72% of PA Virtual students continue their education in some way after graduation? Students preparing to enroll in college should take the PSAT/NMSQT, SAT or ACT before graduation. In 2016, some major changes were implemented to the SAT assessment. From here on out, here are a few things students should be prepared for when signing up to take the SAT:

PA Virtual Grads-Where are They Now?
Katrina Lynn Whetsel Katrina Lynn Whetsel graduated from PA Virtual in 2009 and capped off her educational experience by singing at graduation which was held at Hidden Valley Resort in Hidden Valley, PA. Katrina began her music career at 14 like most other vocalists – by singing her favorite cover songs. Cyber school gave her the flexibility to spend time in the studio while also finishing high school. After graduating from PA Virtual, Katrina went to The Art Institute of Pittsburgh and received her BA in digital design. One of the best aspects about a cyber education according to Katrina was the how she learned independence and personal responsibility. She found her teachers always went above and beyond to give students the tools and guidance needed to prepare for college. We caught up with Katrina and asked her a few questions about how life has been since PA Virtual and what advice she has for current students!
