Middle school is a pivotal time for growth, challenge, and preparation for the future. At PA Virtual, our middle school program is designed to meet the needs of every learner, including those who are ready to go further and achieve more. With dedicated teachers, advanced coursework, and enrichment opportunities, our students are supported academically and socially while gaining the confidence to excel in high school and beyond.

Dedicated and Supportive Teachers

Our certified middle school teachers are passionate about student success. They not only bring expertise in their subject areas, but also build strong relationships with students and families. Through interactive lessons, small-group instruction, and co-teaching models, teachers create engaging learning experiences that encourage curiosity and deeper understanding.

For students striving to achieve at a higher level, our teachers provide individualized support, enrichment opportunities, and ongoing accessibility for questions or extra help. This personalized approach ensures each child receives the guidance they need to thrive academically while developing independence as a learner.

Literacy and Reading Support

We offer a targeted Reading Program for grades 5 and 6 designed to support students who are two grade levels behind, focusing on increasing literacy skills and reading fluency through specialized instruction and personalized support.

Expanding Enrichment and Co-Teaching

Our Enrichment Program has expanded to grades 5 and 7, providing additional support for students who need help mastering challenging concepts. Students in grades 5, 6, and 7 benefit from a co-teaching model, which enhances instruction and offers engaging activities in the virtual classroom, allowing for smaller groups, flexible pacing, and deeper discussion. Additional support sessions with teachers are available to ensure students receive the help they need to succeed.

Honors Classes and High School Credit Opportunities

Middle school students have the opportunity to take Honors classes within the K12 curriculum, allowing them to explore advanced coursework. Students can earn high school credit in Honors Algebra I and Honors English if they achieve 80% or higher, while also taking the Keystone Exam to meet graduation requirements early.

Accelerated Learners Program

Our Accelerated Learners Program supports advanced students after school, helping them develop research and leadership skills through engaging activities such as speech, science fair, in-house competitions, and novel discussions, fostering academic growth and confidence.

Homework Help

Homework Help is an after-school program providing support for students with their assignments. Students have the opportunity to receive additional tutoring to build their understanding of classroom concepts, reinforcing daily lessons and supporting organizational skills.

Applied Classes

Applied Classes are designed to review topics taught in the virtual classroom while providing students with structured time to complete IXL assignments under teacher guidance. These sessions allow students to deepen their understanding of key concepts and practice skills in a supportive environment.

 Flexible Learning Options

PA Virtual offers asynchronous, synchronous, and blended teaching models to provide flexibility, allowing families to choose the approach that best supports their child’s learning style. This ensures students receive a personalized experience while maintaining a structured and engaging learning environment.

Digital Citizenship and Internet Safety

At PA Virtual Charter School, we believe preparing students for success includes teaching them how to navigate the digital world responsibly. Our middle school program includes age-appropriate sessions with school counselors on digital citizenship and internet safety to help students understand the importance of online etiquette, protecting personal information, and recognizing safe online practices.

Students learn how to communicate respectfully, evaluate online sources, and make responsible choices while using technology for learning and social interaction. These sessions equip students with lifelong skills to stay safe and act responsibly in an increasingly digital world.

State Testing Participation

PA Virtual Charter School middle school students participate in Pennsylvania’s PSSA and Keystone testing, ensuring they meet state academic requirements and progress benchmarks. Our dedicated teachers prepare students for these assessments by aligning instruction with state standards and providing practice opportunities to build confidence and familiarity with test formats.

Students enrolled in Honors Algebra I and Honors English will also take the Keystone Exams for these courses, which helps them meet graduation requirements early while earning high school credit.

Clubs & After‑School Programs

A key part of our middle school experience is connecting students beyond the classroom. We offer a variety of clubs and after‑school opportunities where students can team up with peers who share their passions, grow leadership skills, and build community in a fun, supportive environment.

Junior National Honor Society (JNHS) at PA Virtual

PA Virtual’s Junior National Honor Society offers middle school students an opportunity to grow as leaders and scholars while serving their community. Eligible students in grades 6–8 are invited to apply based on their academic excellence, character, leadership, citizenship, and service.

Through JNHS, students participate in service projects, leadership activities, and peer community building, helping them develop responsibility and a commitment to making a positive impact. Members meet regularly in a virtual format, allowing them to connect with peers across the state who share their dedication to scholarship and service, while gaining skills that prepare them for high school success and beyond.

At PA Virtual, we recognize that middle school is more than just a bridge between elementary and high school, it’s a time to nurture potential, spark curiosity, and build confidence. Through personalized academic support, enrichment opportunities, flexible learning options, and a vibrant community of teachers and peers, our students are equipped to thrive both inside and outside the classroom. By fostering independence, responsibility, and a love of learning, PA Virtual’s middle school program prepares every child to take the next step with confidence and success.
