From the spooky twists of The Monkey’s Paw to the exciting adventures of Peter and Wendy or the cultural lessons resonating in Green Velvet, the PA Virtual Book Club takes readers on journeys through stories that entertain, inspire, and connect us. At PA Virtual, students in the Book Club connect in a variety of ways, whether sharing their booming book collections, or diverse interests in a multitude of genres, they come together to share one of their greatest loves, reading. The Book Club at PA Virtual is a welcoming space where students come together to share their enthusiasm for reading, explore different genres, and connect with others who enjoy great stories. During the bi-weekly meetings, students have the opportunity to share their thoughts and opinions on a wide range of literature, sometimes a short story, or a chapter from the current student selected book choice. Discussions are engaging, and reflections are thoughtful, allowing students the opportunity to deepen their understanding of literature while building a sense of community beyond the classroom.
PA Virtual students in grades 6-12 are able to join the Book Club. The club meets every 1st and 3rd Friday of the month during our lunch break. The Book Club is led by Mrs. Gibbs and Ms. Hayes, both high school ELA teachers. Both advisors describe themselves as “bookish” and enjoy sharing their passion for reading with their students.

Book Bingo Challenge
Typical activities during the club include games (book trivia), short story readings, discussions, and larger reading projects such as full books. Book Bingo is a favorite way to keep reading fun and creative, for example: read a short story by a campfire, or read an animal book to your pet! Students can take advantage of the school library to select books, and the club chooses the book selections from the NEHS High School Library to allow easy access to many different titles. Students also like to share what they are currently reading, or sometimes share a pet or even what they are having for lunch. It’s a fun way to feel among friends in our club setting. Fellow club member, Kylie H. shared how they feel about book club, “"Being a part of book club is a truly electrifying experience. Books hold a special place in my heart, and this club has helped open new book ideas out to me. #BookLover4Ever!" The PA Virtual Book Club is definitely a great place for students to grow in their reading experience and have a blast doing it!
Student Reading Circle
It is the goal of the Book Club to foster and inspire a lifelong passion for reading, build critical thinking skills, and give students a voice in a fun virtual environment. The Book Club builds relationships, fosters a sense of community, and makes reading exciting! Students can join the club by simply emailing one of the advisors, and then they can start attending club meetings. Families and students are encouraged to reach out for more details. The Book Club connects to PA Virtual’s mission of creating a safe space to foster students' intellectual curiosity, growth, and development. With the support of parents, students, and staff-the Book Club can continue to grow and help foster the love of reading for many years to come!
