For PA Virtual Charter School Class of 2025 graduate Blake, the past five years have been about more than just academics, they’ve been about growth, connection, and preparing for what comes next.
Hailing from Juniata County, Pennsylvania, Blake joined PA Virtual midway through his educational journey and quickly found a community that made a lasting impact. “It was honestly the community connection that PA Virtual has,” he shared, reflecting on what made his experience so meaningful.
That sense of connection began early on. In sixth grade, a science teacher sparked Blake’s interest in learning by making classes engaging and fun. From there, he became more involved, joining clubs, building relationships, and embracing everything PA Virtual had to offer.
Now, Blake is preparing to take the next big step: attending Pennsylvania State University to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. With plans to continue advancing his education and earn certifications in emergency medicine, he’s setting his sights on a future where he can make a difference and possibly as a travel nurse, helping communities wherever he’s needed most.
Blake credits his academic experience at PA Virtual and especially his AP and honors courses, with preparing him for college. “Taking AP courses challenged me, but I was always supported by my teachers,” he said. As a future biology major, courses like honors biology and AP Biology played a key role in building his confidence and readiness for what lies ahead.
Behind that success, Blake points to several teachers who made a lasting impact. From building strong connections in Writers Nook and AP Literature to receiving ongoing support and encouragement throughout a busy senior year, he found mentors who pushed him to do his best, while also reminding him to take care of himself along the way. “They challenge us, but they prepare us,” he explained.
For Blake, graduation is both a milestone and a launching point. “It’s closing a really long chapter,” he said, “even if I’m closing it a year early.” More than anything, he’s excited for the freedom and opportunities ahead and the chance to explore beyond his hometown and pursue a meaningful career in healthcare.
When asked what advice he would give to other students, Blake didn’t hesitate: step outside your comfort zone. Whether it’s taking an honors or AP course, joining a club, or simply reaching out to make new connections, he encourages students to go for it. “Don’t be afraid to meet new people or ask your teachers for help,” he said. “They’re there to support you.”
From discovering a passion for science to preparing for a future in nursing, Blake’s journey is a testament to the power of connection, challenge, and community at PA Virtual.
